Rehabilitating our stormwater system

In 2022 we upgraded 100 metres of a stormwater culvert underneath Turton Road and Womboin Road in Lambton.

We are installing a new 210 metre stormwater culvert along Macquarie Street and at the intersection of Hanbury Street and Macquarie Street.

We are also be upgrading the existing 277 metre stormwater culvert that runs underground between Macquarie Street and Valencia Street.

Because this work will take place both above and underground, there will be times when we need to partially or wholly close roads temporarily.

We have engaged a contractor, EIRE Constructions, to complete this work on behalf of Hunter Water.

Construction is nearing completion however work on Hanbury Street has been delayed due to the unforeseen rescheduling of an Ausgrid outage needed to complete this work. We are working with Ausgrid to confirm a revised date and will provide an update when we know more, however it is likely that this date will now fall in 2025. Traffic arrangements at the western side of the Hanbury and Macquarie Street intersection will remain in place.

We will be replacing approximately 315 metres of the stormwater culvert underneath Christo Road in Georgetown.

Construction at this location has already started, and the project is due to be finished by early to mid 2025, assuming the weather is fine and there are no major issues.

Work will take place in four stages. Local residents and businesses will be notified before the start of each stage and kept up to date as work progresses.

We will be relining approximately 132 metres of the underground stormwater culvert, as well as installing an additional stormwater culvert that passes beneath the intersection of Platt Street and Turton Road, and partly runs parallel with the railway line in Waratah.

Project update

Construction on this location has already started, and the project is due to be finished by early to mid 2025, assuming the weather is fine and there are no major issues.

Construction work will be taking place with changed traffic conditions between 7.00am to 5.00pm, until early September 2024.

Access along Platt Street may be restricted at times during this period however access to driveways will be maintained and there will be traffic controllers onsite to assist. You may also notice:

• traffic delays for short periods during the work
• partial lane closures on Platt Street
• left only access in and out of driveways adjacent to the work zone
• temporary removal of some parking near the work area
• reduced speed limits of 40km/h
• construction traffic signs and traffic control personnel assisting with vehicle movements, pedestrians and cyclists
• construction workers, trucks, equipment and vehicles in the area during standard construction hours of 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 1pm on Saturday.
