Hunter Water Corporation is Born

In its centenary year, the Board broke with public sector traditions and the organisation became a Corporation under the State Owned Corporations' Act on 1 January 1992.

Being the first natural monopoly to be corporatised in Australia, Hunter Water Corporation broke new ground with its Operating Licence (detailing the regulation of the monopoly power) and the Statement of Corporate Intent (setting out the business relationship with the Government as shareholder). Furthermore, the establishment of a contractual relationship with customers, gave formal rights to all parties.
